On the verge of the landmark Live Earth concerts, they offer autographed guitars for auction.
The famous Gibson guitar company has made 25 ultra-limited edition acoustic six-string guitars featuring the Live Earth logo and themed design. They are made from environmentally-friendly materials sourced from rainforest-certified mahogany. The guitars will be autographed by all the acts on Live Earth, then auctioned on eBay. Proceeds will go to The Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-partisan US group that includes members from government, business and civil sectors.
The founder and producer of Live Earth, Kevin Wall, said in a statement "The Gibson custom designed acoustic guitars represent the ultimate combination of music and environmentally conscious practice that is in line with our Live Earth messaging."
Meanwhile, UK upstarts Arctic Monkeys have called the Live Earth concerts "hypocritical", according to French news agency AFP. Drummer Matt Helders said the band wouldn't play Live Earth because the jet-setting band are currently "using enough power for ten houses just for lighting. It'd be a bit hypocritical."
They join a chorus of criticism from Bob Geldof, Roger Daltrey and the Pet Shop Boys. UK act Keane and the recently reformed Crowded House have previously defended the event.
