Sax legend Boots Randolph has died in Nashville at age 80.
He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage last week and had been hospitalised in a coma, but passed away yesterday (July 3) after his life support was switched off.Boots will be best remembered for his 1963 hit 'Yakety Sax', which was used years later as the theme to the Benny Hill show.
His sax can also be heard on tunes like Roy Orbison's 'Oh Pretty Woman', 'Turn On Your Lovelight' by Jerry Lee Lewis and Brenda Lee's 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree'.
He also recorded with Elvis Presley many times, including recording the soundtracks to eight of his movies.
Randolph owned a successful club in Nashville's seedy Printer's Alley and later in life started up a new one in Opryland, just out of Nashville.
There is a golf course named after him in Cadiz, Kentucky, which is where he grew up.
