Influential blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin has died of heart failure at the age of 80. Named the 43rd greatest player of all time by Rolling Stone, Sumlin was well known for his years playing in Howlin' Wolf's band.
After Howlin Wolf's death in 1976, Sumlin contimued to play and tour. As recently as October 2011 he celebrated his 80th birthday on the road with a show in New Jersey.
Other guitar legends site Sumlin as a huge influence, Led Zeppelin guitarist Page recently said: “I love Hubert. He always played the right thing at the right time. Bandmate Dave Spector said: “Hubert had larger-than-live charm and devilishness.”
Keith Richards performed with Sumlin last year and is believed to helped out with medical bills for the guitar legend. Bless you Keef.
