Jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman has been hospitalized after collapsing on stage at the Tennessean festival, Bonnaroo.
Coleman was suffering from heat stroke and was given intravenous fluids on site before being sent to Coffey County Hospital in Manchester, TN.Temperatures at the festival had reached 100 degrees (37 celcius), and Coleman was wearing a full suit on stage.
He made a full recovery and was able to return to his hotel room later that night.
The 77 year old star recently won the Pulitzer Prize for music for his live album 'Sound Grammar' and was recently given the lifetime achievement award at the Grammys.
He is known as the pioneer of "free jazz", a style that divided jazz fans between those who already believed that jazz was free and those who appreciated his total disregard for all musical rules.
His albums 'The Shape Of Jazz To Come' (1959) and 'Free Jazz' (1960) amongst others are considered classics and are studied around the world.
