Nearly 20 years after the Traveling Wilburys released their spectacular debut, 'Volume 1', the band are back at the number one spot in Australia.
The fantastic repackaging of both of their albums, together with a DVD showing a documentary on the band and all of their videos, was apparently something Australian fans wanted as 20,610 copies were moved in stores across the country. The group featured Bob Dylan, ex Beatle George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and ex-E.L.O. Jeff Lynne and spawned a number of chart topping singles.
Sadly Roy Orbison died of a heart attack soon after the album was released. The band paid tribute to Roy in the video to 'The End Of The Line', which shows an empty rocking chair with Orbison's guitar resting in it.
The band's two albums 'Volume 1' and 'Volume 3' (don't ask, just accept that it's Volume 3 and not 2) should be an important part of any serious music fan's collection.
The brilliant packaging this reissue comes in almost makes up for the fact that the albums have been out of print for around 10 years. Do yourself a favour and pick this up.
The set just edged out Brisbane boys Powderfinger, who were last weeks number 1. This week they sold 19,433 units - 94.3% of the #1 spot.
