A song which explores the lighter side of the Zinedine Zidane headbutt debacle is proving a massive hit in France.
It was a little over three weeks ago that France lost the World Cup to Italy, a result made all the more tragic for Zidane's infamous forehead attack on Italian defender Marco Materazzi. In the wake of the defeat, production trio La Plage found themselves unable to work out of sheer disappointment. So they set to work instead on creating the track 'Coup de Boule' ('Headbutt'). Written in 30 minutes, the track proved an instant email phenomenon.Emmanuel Lipszyc of La Plage told The Guardian, "It has been a succession of surprises. The first surprise was hearing the song on the radio two hours after we posted it on the net."
With Warner jumping at the opportunity to distribute the track, it made its debut at number two on the French pop chart, selling 17,000 physical copies and 15,000 downloads. Warner has indicated that they are confident the track will top the French chart this week.
