Richard Fairbrass, lead singer of kitschy pop group Right Said Fred, was bashed at a gay rights march in Moscow over the weekend.
The Kremlin had banned the city's second ever Gay Rights march, which saw dozens of right-wing extremists and ultra-nationalists attack the protesters with violence, eggs and a barrage of verbal insults.A photo released of Fairbrass, who had a novelty hit in 1991 with the tune 'I'm Too Sexy', shows his face bloodied, sporting a deep cut underneath his left eye.
Russian pop group Tatu also took part in the march, with member Yuliya Katina reportedly saying she was angered "when someone forbids someone else from loving in the way they want to love."
Up to a dozen protesters were arrested for taking part in the march, including several prominent European politicians. Europe has condemned the violent crackdown.
