Cream bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce has all but ruled out a reunion of the supergroup due to persistent animosity between himself and drummer Ginger Baker.
Speaking to the 'Scotsman' newspaper, Bruce explained that friction between the two "exists, not existed - it hasn't gone away".Bruce, who along with Eric Clapton fronted the late sixties supergroup, left little room for diplomacy in his comments against Baker, telling the paper, "It's all Ginger's fault. He's a terrible guy. Ask anybody, ask his ex-wife. Although, according to my wife it's as much my fault as it is his. I can be quite annoying with Ginger; he thought I should always stay the little guy he first met who was always in thrall to him.
Ruling out the possibility of a reunion any time soon, "because none of us want to do it", Bruce also conceded, "It doesn't mean it won't happen, but at the moment none of us are in love with the idea. It's a knife-edge thing for me and Ginger."
He continued, "Nowadays we're happily co-existing in different continents, with Ginger in South Africa, although I was thinking of asking him to move. He's still a bit too close. Anyway the Police were worse than us. I'm a good friend of Andy Summers and he has told me some stories. The Police were much more physical than Cream ever were."
Bruce did manage some kinder words regarding Baker's musical prowess, adding, "Ginger was a big influence because of his African rhythms that he passed on to me, and Eric has a vast knowledge of blues music that I absorbed. And above all, I learned that it's the feeling rather than the way of performing that's important."
The trio did briefly reunite in late 2005 for shows in London and New York.
