This year's Splendour In The Grass Festival has sold out in record time.
The seventh Splendour In The Grass sold out in five hours, smashing their previous sales record of 26 hours in 2005. They sold all 17,500 tickets as well as 2,500 camping passes. A ticket and camping pass for the weekend festival set fans back a little over $300.Still, there was a slew of unhappy punters who missed out, and many made their displeasure explicitly clear on Splendour's myspace. According to a Splendour press release, the demand on the OzTix system, which was responsible for queuing ticketing requests, was heavier than for Big Brother calls and the T1 Telstra Sale.
Despite the overwhelming demand, anti-scalping measures which require photo ID to match names printed on the tickets seem to be working. There are currently no Splendour tickets on offer at eBay, and the four that were posted right after the event sold out have been removed.
For those who did manage to get tickets, they'll be treated to Powderfinger, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Hoodoo Gurus, Bloc Party, The Shins and more when Splendour announces the complete line-up.
