Ultra-smooth loveman R.Kelly has written a new song for the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.
Proving that the multi-platinum R&B king's heart can open up to more than just the ladies, R.Kelly has announced that the new song 'Rise Up' was inspired by the healing necessary following the Virginia Tech massacre. The song will be available digitally on May 15, and every cent of the sales will go to charity Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. The charity was set up to provide assistance and grief counselling for those affected by the university shooting, where a gunman killed 32 staff and students on April 16.
Label Jive Records noted that R.Kelly wrote the ballad after being affected by the events that unfolded on television. Lyrics include, "Rise up, when you feel you can't go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you're weak and you can't be strong." You can hear a snippet of 'Rise Up' on his myspace.
R.Kelly's first album in four years, 'Double Up', will be released on May 29. His latest single, 'I'm A Flirt', was released last month.
