Sydney hipster band The Valentinos will play two shows to farewell their name.
The band say they are changing their name due to a conflict with Bobby Womack's '50s soul outfit The Valentinos although that group hasn't released anything in decades. It could be more likely that they're conflicting with a current New York band of the same name (although that band has only been together since late 2005) or a longstanding Detroit band of the same name who have been around since at least 2003.Either way, the band under whatever name are currently recording a new album with Belin-based UK producer Ewan Pearson (who has worked with Tracy Thorn, Gwen Stefani, The Rapture and Ladytron). The first single from the album will be released in July.
The fashionable new wave rockers are also re-pressing their first two EPs, self-titled and 'Damn & Damn Again'.
The two final shows under the name The Valentinos will take place at The Annandale in Sydney on May 18 and at the Click Click indie night at Brown Alley in Melbourne on May 19.
