Thank Yahweh, Beastie Boys promise more rock on their seventh album 'Mix It Up'.
Mike D has spoken to UK's NME.com about their seventh studio album, insisting that it will be "radically different" to the old-skool minimalist MCing and beats of 2004's 'To The Five Boroughs'.D saying that the album with hark back to the days of 'Paul's Boutique' and 'Check Your Head' will be sweet music to the ears of fans who have been disappointed by the trio's recent primitive diversions.
Mike D went on to tell NME.com that, "We play instruments on the whole album, as opposed to sampling. There's more rock on there. If you know us you can trace the influences and they're not completely surprising. Someone who listens to us casually might think 'What the hell are these guys doing?'"
He continued, "It might make you flip your wig right off, or your hairpiece, if you're a casual listener."
The trio began as a barebones hardcore outfit in New York in the '80s, although the rock element has diminished with each release. Hopefully it will come back in full force when 'Mix It Up' is released in June this year.
