Punk rock icon Iggy Pop celebrated his 60th birthday on stage with The Stooges.
Reuters reports that the reunited punk progenitors hit the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco on Saturday April 21. Towards the end of their set the band pumped out a version of 'Happy Birthday To You' for the Iggster. One astute punter came prepared, handing the frontman a tee-shirt emblazoned with 'Birthday Boy Iggy".Despite being given a covering, the wiry elder statesman continued to play shirtless, reportedly muttering a few thank yous before continuing to perform the band's classics and tracks from their comeback album 'The Weirdness'.
Pop told the New York Daily News about the bands' resurgence, "For this first time ever I have everything I ever wanted,: cool cars, hot sex, a good band that people really like, proper shows. And I don't wake up feeling sick."
'The Weirdness' is the first studio album in 33 years for the cult act. The band, with newly recruited bassist Mike Watt of the Minutemen, returned to the stage in 2005. The Stooges will tidy up their US dates on May 5 in Memphis before performing at festivals across Europe through June and July.
