New Zealand native Max Merritt has been admitted into a Los Angeles hospital after suffering from kidney failure.
Merritt, who has lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, had recently been undergoing treatment aimed at fixing his kidneys. The severity of his condition is unknown although his Melbourne based manager Wal Bishop says he's expecting to make a full recovery.
Max Merritt had a number of hits in Australia and New Zealand in the 60s and 70s, in particular with 'Slippin Away' and 'Western Union Man'.
He has recently enjoyed a resurgence in popularity as people like the late Billy Thorpe, Gil Evans and promoter Michael Chugg have given these artists chances to play again, slowly turning the younger crowd onto the older performers.
