Schoolchildren attacked journalists with a volley of rocks in an attempt to keep them from Madonna as she visited an orphanage in Malawi yesterday.
The teenagers, clad in black and yellow uniforms, took law and order into their own hands, circling the orphanage where Madonna's adoptive son had once lived.Madonna eventually restored some peace, inviting journalists into the Home of Hope orphanage, where she posed for photographs whilst clutching one-year-old David Banda.
Madonna has pledged funds for a new clinic to be built in the village of Gumulira. She acquired David six months ago, and will have to wait another twelve months for a final decision by the Malawian government as to whether she can fully adopt the child.
