Pete Doherty brings Carl Barat on stage for a shock Libertines reunion.
Doherty was playing the second of his 'An Evening With' series at Hackney Empire in London on Thursday night and an hour into the show, he announced the introduction of former Libertines co-conspirator "Mr Carlos Barat" to the stage. All reports indicate mass hysteria erupted from the crowd, as the band went on to play thirteen Libertines tunes. They went on to play an impromptu version of 'Can't Stand Me Now' from a dressing room window afterwards, with Kate Moss looking on.
The normally reserved English fans and music press responded rather favourably to the event, punters telling NME "It was nothing short of an explosive, history-in-the-making moment", an event to "bottle and store in the cellar... for an unborn generation" that was "the best night of my life."
Others were not so sure the event will go down in history. The Guardian was unmoved, producing the blog "The Libertines - Just A Band". The blog watered down the hysteria by reminding listeners that "the Libertines were never very good." And we at Undercover may ruminate that no amount of skag will change that fact.
