U2 guitarist The Edge, real name Dave Evans, will be awarded an honorary doctorate of music from Berkley College next month for his 'achievements in the world of music and enduring contributions to American and international culture'.
The soon to be Dr. The Edge will join Gloria Estefan, Emilio Estefan and Andrew Hill when they're honored next month. It's going to be a good month for The Edge, who will also be honored at New York City's 'Can Do' awards for his work with The Food Bank, which provides meals for 250,000 people a day.
The Edge isn't the only U2 member to be honored. Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II has given U2 singer Bono an honorary knighthood for his humanitarian services.
Bono said in a statement, "What a great year for an Irishman to receive an award from Great Britain. The Peace process has proceeded to a conclusion, debt cancellation - started in Great Britain - has put 20 million African children in school, The Happy Mondays and Shaun Ryder have reformed, [we think he added that part for a touch of cred], England's rugby squad entered Croke Park to thunderous applause, silence for God Save The Queen, then the Irish hammered them. I couldn't be more proud.
"I would like to thank Her Majesty's Ambassador for pinning this award on me in my home town, and the band for not bursting my balloon." He said, acknowledging his long suspected ego trip.
