Bono and The Edge Talk About Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark

Bono and The Edge have revealed details of their upcoming score to Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark.

No, that's not a new movie, that's actually a new Broadway musical and the U2 members are writing the music.

"This visionary man Tony Adams who was a producer who left Ireland and went and made his fortune in Hollywood came into our office one day with this hunch that maybe we might be interested in doing something on Broadway," The Edge said on ABC's 'Good Morning America'. He arrived and showed Paul McGuiness this concept to do Spiderman and he didn't know that Bono and I had been talking about doing something on Broadway for a long time.

"The fist thing we said was "If you can get Julie Taymore involved, we might be interested," but Tony unfortunately passed away before the deal could come to fruition.

"Actually on the day that we were signing the deal to do it, Tony passed away in Edge's apartment sadly," Bono added. "[He] left a lot of turmoil behind in terms of the production and stuff, but that's been put right and to honour him and his family, we weren't going to let up and we pushed on and we're very very proud of what we got here."

The band don't see Spiderman as just an average comic book story either.

"I think we're interested in it because it's a really quintessential New York story and we all want to be New Yorkers," Bono said. "It's not so serious, but post 9-11, this idea of everyone being capable of being a hero kind of caught our imaginations and we didn't want to go about it in any earnest way, but it's a mythological character old Peter Parker."

The play stars Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson, Patrick Page as both Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin and Reeve Carney playing Peter Parker.

Opening night for 'Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark' is December 21st at Broadway's Foxwood Theatre. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.
