Beaconsfield miners Todd Russell and Brant Webb will commemorate the first anniversary of their rescue by releasing a rock single.
The pair, already familiar with rock and its immense crushing abilities, were trapped almost a kilometre underground after the mine in Tasmania's north collapsed on April 25 last year.Their debut (and likely farewell) single '321 Hours' is released on May 9, and features the pair's wives on backing vocals. It will also commemorate the day Larry King, their colleague who was killed in the initial rock fall, was laid to rest.
The song, which signifies the amount of time the pair were trapped underground, was recorded with Adelaide outfit Unitopia. Considering the band's listed influences, the tune could turn out to actually be 321 hours long. According to their Myspace account, Unitopia are really into Yes, Spock's Beard, Pink Floyd, Rick Wakeman, Alan Parsons, Marillion, Robert Fripp and Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
