Legendary producer and Garbage co-founder Butch Vig is set to produce the next record from Arizonans, Jimmy Eat World.
According to a post on the band's website blog, Vig will be working alongside engineer Chris Testa for the follow-up to 2004's underrated 'Futures' release, which saw the band take a generally darker turn after their pop breakthrough album 'Bleed American' (later changed to self-titled).Vig produced several seminal alternative rock albums in the 1990s, including Nirvana's 'Nevermind', Sonic Youth's 'Dirty' and Smashing Pumpkins' 'Siamese Dream'. The Wisconsin native will work at the band's home studio in Tempe, Arizona.
Jimmy Eat World drummer Zach Lind posted, "Butch Vig will also be along side the band making sure we don't forget to thrash unreal!!(We are pretty sure that's Wisconsin slang for "kicking serious ass")".
