Legendary indie rockers The Flaming Lips have surpassed even the most loosely worded descriptions in their 23 years of existence, smashing any preconceptions of what music should be with outrageous live shows spanning from rock to an atmospheric dream, and finally that live experience is going to be released on DVD.
'U.F.O.s At The Zoo : The Legendary Concert In Oklahoma City' will drop into stores on July 10 and lean heavily on the band's last three albums, as well as occasionally dipping into some past favourites. The DVD will also be released in the newly named MVI format (formerly DVD audio), but there is no word on a CD release.
It will be the first ever live DVD for the band, with previous live footage only appearing in small doses on other Lips releases.
The band had one major hit way back in 1993 with 'She Don't Use Jelly' before seemingly being confined to the tiny ambit of indie's superiority complex.
Ten years later the band reemerged from the uber-cool fan base that stuck with them with The Soft Parade and have since won Grammys and the hearts of thousands.
North American fans can expect a full scale tour to be announced shortly. The rest of the world will have to wait, hopefully not too long.
