Surprise, surprise, surprise ...the Guns 'n' Roses world tour has been postponed, due to an injury sustained by bass player Tommy Stinson.
Stinson fell down a flight of stairs and has sprained his wrist. "I feel so bad right now," explains bassist Tommy Stinson. "I accidentally fell down a flight of stairs. I put my hand down to break my fall and heard a loud 'pop.' The next morning my hand looked like a balloon," he said in a statement. "I went to see my doctor, and while the good news is that it's not broken, the bad is news is it's severely sprained and I may have done some ligament damage. We had our last rehearsal a few days ago and shipped the gear to Japan and then this happened. I feel horrible".The delay in the start of the world tour is yet to impact on the rest of the scheduled shows although G 'n' R will still play at a festival in South Africa at the end of the month.
The greater problem for G 'n' R however, is that this looks like just another one of their "boy who cried wolf" sagas. This is a band renowned for cancelling shows, not turning up for performances and God only knows when we will see the much delayed 'Chinese Democracy' album.
What makes matters worse for fans is that "this is only Tommy Stinson". Axl Rose is touring as Guns 'n' Roses with no original members other than himself. Fans could not care less if it was Stinson up there playing bass ... or anyone for that matter. They are only interested in the G 'n' R songs sung by Rose.
A replacement bass player would save face for this band which is in much need of credibility.
Stinson does say he is sorry though. "I'd like to apologize to our Japanese fans that were looking forward to seeing us and know that we will we see you all soon. Again, we'd like to sincerely thank our fans worldwide for their patience and support."
It is unknown at this stage of the Australian dates for June will be effected. G 'n' R sources however are saying the world tour will be delayed until July.
We will await a response from Australian promoter Paul Dainty today.
