Adelaide metalcore exports I Killed The Prom Queen have called it quits.
The break was officially announced on April 8, although the band have been fracturing for quite some time. Singer Ed Butcher left the band to return to the UK in February. Despite rumours that IKTPQ guitarist Jonah Weinhofen left to join Massechusetts hardcore outfit Bury Your Dead, which now features ex-IKTPQ and Carpathian singer Michael Crafter, he has actually accepted a position with Californian metalcore act Bleeding Through. So without a singer and lead guitarist, I Killed The Prom Queen chose to disband. Each member have farewelled their fans through myspace, although Australian label rep Darren Cherry said it best, writing, "This is a HUGE blow for Australian heavy music and the tens of thousands of IKTPQ fans around the world. The band were just beginning to hit their stride and I feel that the best was yet to come."
IKTPQ were one of Australia's premier heavy music exports, touring the world and releasing albums on US labels Hand Of Hope and Metal Blade as well as dependable Australian hardcore label Resist and at their newest home of Stomp. Their 2006 album 'Music For The Recently Deceased' debuted on the ARIA charts at number 27.
