Scott Leger of Austin, Texas has beaten almost 15,000 songwriters to take out the first prize in the International Songwriting Contest this year.
Scott won for his song 'Maybe Tonight, Maybe Tomorrow'.He wrote the song after learning that a friend had cancer. It was his way of coping with the news as well as honouring cancer survivors across the world.
Leger performed the song live at the Lance Armstrong Foundation Gala in front of an audience which included former President Bill Clinton.
Scott also fronts the band Wideawake, who have put out two releases to date and sold more than 40,000 units independently.
Wideawake have toured with Sheryl Crow, Third Eye Blind, Gavin Degraw, Sister Hazel and Tears for Fears.
