Smashing Pumpkins forthcoming album will be titled 'Zeitgeist'.
The new album, said by the band to be their 6th album, is in fact their 7th. Their last album, and the real 6th album, was 'Machina II: The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music'. The album was meant for release in 2000 but was rejected by their then label Virgin Records. In retaliation, Billy Corgan gave the album away free off charge at the Smashing Pumpkins website. The new album 'Zeitgeist' is a challenge to fans who see the "new" Smashing Pumpkins as somewhat of a poor excuse by Billy Corgan to cover up his less than successful history since breaking up the band. His next band Zwan broke up before the album had left the charts and his solo record was a global stiff.
Is 'Zeitgiest' really a new Smashing Pumpkins albums? No way. Founding members James Iha and D'Darcy are both missing in action from the reformed band. Only drummer Jimmy Chamberlain features with Corgan in the revised line-up. Corgan is yet to reveal who plays with him on the record or who will feature in the line-up of the touring band.
'Zeitgeist' will be released on the 7th of the 7th, 07 through Martha's Music/Reprise. It was produced by Corgan and Chamberlain with Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date.
Smashing Pumpkins will perform their first show on May 22 at Grand Rex in Paris and follow it up touring the European Festivals.
