Take Brent DeBoer of The Dandy Warhols, add Bob Harrow (The Lazy Sons) and pair them with four more of the most exciting and hard-working young Melbourne-based musicians today. Forged in the fires of Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar through a chance meeting between DeBoer and Harrow, this is Australian psych folk / country supergroup Immigrant Union – comprised of DeBoer, Harrow, Courtney Barnett, Bones Sloan, Dave Mudie and Peter Lubulawa – and their latest single ‘Alison’ taken from forthcoming album Anyway.

Take Brent DeBoer of The Dandy Warhols, add Bob Harrow (The
Lazy Sons) and pair them with four more of the most exciting
and hard-working young Melbourne-based musicians today.
One could expect nothing less than brilliance from Immigrant Union,
each of its members acclaimed performers in their own right. Building
its reputation through stellar live performances at Australia’s most
legendary venues, this is a band that whose effortless musicianship and enticing ‘no frills’ attitude towards song writing produces honest,
warming and instantly recognisable tracks. ‘Alison’ is a steady-paced
and superbly textured country song ripe with warm guitar tones,
understated hooks and a pleasing lyrical rawness. As Immigrant Union
recount, ‘Alison’ “... is a song about a person trying to get out of a shitty situation... a dude feeling overwhelmed by the whole deal.”
The single was recorded at Coloursound and engineered by Mat Robins. Reminiscent of Old Crow Medicine Show, Neil Young and Spiritualized, here is a memorable release that is just as laid-back as it is dauntless.
‘Alison’ is complimented by the rowdy, knee-slapping b-side ‘War is Peace’, a perfect accompaniment to the single. Expect a colourful approach to storytelling paired with a clever blend of psychedelic folk and traditional country sounds. A relaxed, swaggering vocal delivery and the satisfying twang of Barnett’s slide guitar are highlights of this
track.
A follow-up to 2010’s self –titled debut record, Immigrant Union’s sophomore album Anyway is set for release in early 2014.
