Friends Hamish Pinkham and Tom Gibson have come a long way since their catch up meeting with Uni buddies at the iconic student bar Gardies in Dunedin, back in 2003. What was meant to be the planning of a New Years Eve celebration ended up as the now well established and much awaited Rhythm and Vines Festival.
About to take on their eleventh year, with an expected crowd of over 30.000 people from New Zealand and all over the world, the Rhythm Group will keep the summer humming with the return of Rhythm and Vines, and its South Island counterpart Rhythm and Alps, to the festival calendar in 2013.
Rhythm and Vines takes place on December 29, 30, 31, and showcases the world’s best musicians in one of the most beautiful locations to welcome in the New Year, the Waiohika Estate Vineyard in Gisborne, New Zealand. Thousands have travelled to experience the first sunrise of the year surrounded by nature and great wine, at the biggest Kiwi music festival.
Very environmentally aware, organizers offer sustainable accommodations and transportation. Music fans will get to choose between onsite camping, glamping (camping in style) or hanging out at the Tepee Village made entirely from corporate waste. Rhythm goers can arrange their Ridesharing trips on the festival’s website and in doing so, benefit both their pocket and the planet.
The line-up will be announced in August and is sure to get music fans excited. N*E*R*D, Franz Ferdinand, Calvin Harris, Kimbra, Mark Ronson… any of these names sound familiar? Well, they (and many more) have made the crowds rock during their performances at past editions of the festival.
For those in the South Island, do not feel neglected, for the two-day music festival Rhythm and Alps will be back with an even bigger and better line-up this year. This year, the festival is being moved to December 30 to 31 to ensure those attending the festival are able to see in the New Year in the same style as Rhythm and Vines.
