The trial of Phil Spector is now underway in a Los Angeles court.
The trial begins more than four years after B-movie actress Lana Clarkson was found dead at Spector's castle-themed mansion outside Los Angeles. The rock producer is charged with her murder. As previously reported, proceedings will be broadcast live on American television. Fifty news organisations requested seats in the courtroom, which is set to be the most watched trial since OJ Simpson was acquitted of murder in 1995.
Spector will be hoping for a similar result, and seemed confident as he strode into the courtroom, smiling broadly at photographers and sporting a newly styled straight blond mop-top - a far cry from the dishevelled crazy-hair the media have grown accustomed to.
The first day of the trial was dedicated to jury selection, in which in which Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler and the lawyers will pick 12 jurors from a pool of 300 people.
Both the prosecution and the defence agree that Clarkson was killed by a single shot from 0.38 calibre revolver. Spector's team will argue that the actress committed suicide, whilst the prosecution will argue that the producer had pulled guns on women in the past. It's not yet clear whether Spector will take the stand.
