Those happy-go-lucky French funsters will be releasing their fourth LP ‘Bankrupt!’ out Friday 19 April.
’Bankrupt!’ is the first album from the quartet since the release of their breakthrough Grammy Award winning album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix four years ago. The album, with hits like infectious, fuzz-pop ‘1901’ and the slick, saccharin ‘Lisztomania’, introduced Phoenix’s synthe-tinged, electro-pop to the world. Undercover.fm was all over these loveable Frenchies after their ‘Untitled’ 2000 album and the thought of another offering has got us frothing in anticipation.
The album was mixed on the famed Harrison 4032 solid-state recording console used to make Michael Jackson’s Thriller. If that’s anything to go by Phoenix’s latest record will have fans lining up (and frantically clicking online) when ‘Bankrupt!’ is out next month.
Guitarist Laurent ‘Branco’ Brancowitz explains:
“This album has more layers. The more you listen, the more you hear, and the more you really understand what’s going on. At the same time, we wanted it to be really fluid and simple like a sphere made of marble. You just see a sphere, but there’s a guy who polished it for a year.”
‘Entertainment’ is the first offering from Bankrupt! promoting Phoenix as makers of smart and infectious popular music. English isn’t their first language and yet meaning and passion can be felt. Despite an enjoyable sensation from the word go deeper connections and bliss from listening over and over.
