If you thought cruises were for silver-haired 60-somethings then you’re wrong! Alt-rockers Weezer are taking to the high seas again.
Two years after their first music festival-at-sea set sail, Grammy Award-winners Weezer announce the return of ‘The Weezer Cruise’ in 2014.
Launching from Jacksonville, Florida, Thursday 13 February, the rock-and-roll cruise will hit many Caribbean ports including Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas. Fans will celebrate Valentine’s Day with their favourite bands, before returning to port on Monday 17 February.
Main headliners Weezer will perform three sets during the cruise. But the highlight for any fan will be the “Beach Concert with Weezer” on the band’s own private island! Literally (and for once the appropriate use of the word) Weezer on an island in the sun!
The Weezer Cruise brings fans an experience of performances each day and night; see their favorite musicians off-stage, a fan Q&A session with Weezer; the interactive ‘Weezer Game Show’; and a photo session for all guests with the band. Undercover.fm is wondering how many family members or vital organs will have to be sold to secure a ticket to this boat trip with a difference.
The first edition of the Weezer Cruise in 2012 was a runaway success. The band brought along 15 acts including Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Wavves, The Antlers, Yuck, Free Energy, Sleeper Agent, and others that entertained 2,000 lucky cruise-goers.
In addition to Weezer’s concerts, band members got up close and personal with fans: Rivers Cuomo did a reading from the Pinkerton Diaries; Brian Bell hosted a “Movie Night” complete with pj’s and robes; Pat Wilson ran a shuffleboard tournament; and Scott Shriner led couples through wedding vow renewals. Other activities included an “Ugly Sweater Night,” “Weezer Karaoke”, belly flop competitions, beer tastings, and a load more.
Drummer Pat Wilson told Rolling Stone mag: “It was pretty magical….It was surreal….It was insane.”
