Silverchair and Josh Pyke shoot into album and singles charts.
It was always inevitable that whatever Silverchair released as the first single from their forthcoming 'Young Modern' album, it was going to top the Australian singles charts on release. And of course 'Straight Lines' has done just that.On the back of this (admittedly unsurprising) success, they've announced a short jaunt with Sydney's Dappled Cities Fly, hitting Brisbane's The Tivoli on April 27, Melbourne's Metro on May 1, Adelaide's Thebarton on May 4, Fremantle's May 6 and Sydney's Enmore on May 9. Tickets go on sale April 2.
Not so inevitable was Sydney indie troubadour Josh Pyke's number four position for his first true album 'Memories & Dust'. After building up a devoted fanbase through many singles and EPs over the last few years, Pyke's witty and winsome album was by far the highest debut of the week. It trounced the next new entry, Take That's 'Beautiful World', by 28 places.
Pyke is currently on a whistlestop tour of the UK, but will return to play to his adoring public. He starts in Perth on April 13 and heads around the nation, winding up in Adelaide on May 12.
