Birds Of Tokyo have announced the last extra dates for their March Fires Tour. With their new single ‘Lanterns’ making big waves everywhere it is easily the biggest hit of their career. And all this with just over two weeks to go until their hugely anticipated album release. Not bad for the boys from Perth.
Second and final shows have been added at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Sunday 17 March and at The Tivoli in Brisbane on Thursday 21 March. Popularity isn’t even the right word and with tickets for both shows are on sale now they’ll be gone before you know it.
March Fires is out Friday 1 March and their fourth studio album is going to be massive. The album is the result rethinking their sound, an inventiveness that sets the Birds of Tokyo apart from the usual. New members Glen Saraganpany on keys and Ian Berney on Bass have also been added to the line-up. They moved to Sydney, France, Los Angeles whilst working on March Fires. A new producer – Dave Cooley (Silversun Pickups) – and a new mixer – Tony Hoffer (Beck, The Kooks, Belle & Sebastian) have given the band’s new direction with their sound a real and enjoyable sense of purpose.
‘This Fire’ EP, which was requested, played and loved all over the radio late last year was just the beginning. Taken from the EP of the same name, the title track uncovered the new line-up and gave their passionate followers a flavour of what to expect on the hotly anticipated ‘March Fires’.
If you haven’t heard ‘Lanterns’ you’ve been in a cave somewhere miles from a TV or radio. The song’s epic sound shows the band’s reinterpretation of their music, which takes on a much more ghostly, often eerie resonance. Atmospheric at times, yet hazier. Here at Undercover.fm this successful attempt at changing focus whilst exploring new soundscapes is right up our street.
As part of the tour the best local bands will be joining Birds Of Tokyo. This includes Them Swoops in Victoria, Sincerely, Grizzly in Adelaide, The Love Junkies in WA, Stillwater Giants at Freo Arts Centre Only, Super Best Friends in Canberra, The Guppies in NSW and Gung Ho in Queensland. Special guests Regular John joining Birds of Tokyo on their national tour (except for WA dates).
