Earlier this week the cruelly magnificent (no one should be that talented, dapper and sexy) David Bowie released the first single from his forthcoming album on the very same day he turned a very 40'ish looking 66 years of age.
What can we expect from the rest of the " surprise" album titled " The Next Day" ? The single has knocked many fans over in it's wake, despite being a moody, introspective ballad. " Where Are We Now" and it's release shocked fans who had no idea of it's arrival or inception for that matter.
Bowie has worked with producer Tony Visconti, on thirteen previous releases. The brand new release has been recorded secretly in New York for the last couple of years. According to Visconti, fans can look forward to " quite a rock album". Speaking to the BBC Visconti added that he was surprised that Bowie chose to release " Where Are We Now" first, with the following comment;
"I thought to myself: 'Why is David coming out with this very slow, albeit beautiful, ballad? … He should come out with a bang.' But [David] is a master of his own life. I think this was a very smart move, linking the past with the future, and I think the next thing you hear from him is going to be quite different."
Visconti also revealed that the album is a mix of "classic Bowie" and "innovative Bowie". You only have to wait a couple of months to make your own critique. " The Next Day" is released in March 2013.
