The Silkies are one of those rare musical collaborations that work straight off the cuff. No plans for word domination just a coupla kids having a jam and producing great garage pop that pays homage to gal groups of the 60's with an unmistakably fresh sound.
Yep, the sound is as fresh as the cut grass smell from the lawn you just mowed and the rain that's just about to fall on a hot summers day.
Caufield Schnug and Lira Mondal founded Silkies by chance on an especially hot summer day in Austin, Texas. They had played in bands together before, but they were frustrated with their creative outcomes. A week before the pair endeavored to move to Boston for their respective careers (Caufield pursues a Ph.D at Harvard and Lira is working on becoming a chef), Caufield handed Lira his guitar and told her to play whatever came to mind while he sat at the drum kit. Five or ten minutes later, they wrote Like One, and Silkies emerged.
Thank goodness for that one moment, now we have them to enjoy for who knows how long? The pair recently put out an EP available for digital download via Young Latitudes, and a tape version released via Heart Throb Records.Checkout the musical product of one hot Texan summers day. It's great.
