Australian fans will finally have the opportunity to experience Jimi Hendrix's unforgettable 1969 Woodstock concert on the big screen when Hendrix 70: Live from Woodstock hits cinemas on 28 November to celebrate what would have been Hendrix's 70th birthday.
The special presentation has been carefully reassembled from massive archives of footage under the watchful eye of Academy Award winning director Michael Wadleigh, with the support of the Hendrix family owned company Experience Hendrix, LLC.
The film captures a unique Hendrix performance unlike any other ever seen. Premiering a new band, Hendrix's extraordinary performance on that August morning included searing renditions of scorching songs including "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", "Fire", "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady", as well as the famous drama filled interpretation of the "Star Spangled Banner".
Hendrix 70: Live from Woodstock also reveals Hendrix's road to the Woodstock festival by way of never before seen footage and interviews and reveals the struggle to stage the legendary festival and secure Hendrix as its headline artist. This documentary section of the film was directed by Grammy Award winner Bob Smeaton, and will proceed the live performance footage.
Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock performance is legendary in rock music history. Hendrix 70: Live from Woodstock features the original 16mm footage digitally restored together with a new 5.1 audio surround mix by legendary engineer Eddie Kramer. Kramer originally recorded the Woodstock festival and also served Hendrix as his recording engineer throughout his entire career.
The film will be released across Australia by Omniverse Vision on 28 November at select cinemas through Hoyts Cinemas, Event Cinemas, Greater Union, Palace and Dendy.
