" Standing In The Shadows of Mona" is free event that will bring the sounds of Motown and African American Gospel to MONA courtesy of The Southern Gospel Choir.
There is a catch of course... you will have to be in Hobart Tasmania on the 25th of November in order to enjoy. The afternoon commences at 2pm and finishes around five.
Standing in the Shadows of MONA is for the whole family. There will definitely be an urge amongst audience members to sing along, a la The Sound of Music but with less nuns and goats and stuff, and more: STEVIE WONDER, JACKSON 5 , JOE COCKER , MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS and THE BEATLES.
The Southern Gospel Choir root's come from the musical history of slavery: exuberance in the face of oppression. This gig will be an awesome opportunity to cut loose and kick back on the beanbags on the lawns of MONA. Joining the Southern Gospel Choir will be the Gospel Band featuring the following talented players;
MICHAEL SPIBY (THE BADLOVES), BRIAN RITCHIE, MARIA LURIGHI, ANDREW LEGG and DEAN STEVENSON.
