The Drifting will release their debut self titled E.P on Friday 28th September.
The E.P comes three years into the project that evolved from ten years of collaboration and proves that it's been worth the wait. The three musicians Simon Paparo, Nick Kivelos and Felton Fernandes at the heart of The Drifting showcase their musicality and a knack for thoughtful, well constructed songs with ambient atmospheres.
First track "Inspired" sets the ironically haunting atmosphere of the song within the first 13 seconds. Stabs of electric guitar resonate throughout and create an unsettling but not unwelcome rippling across the surface of the song that tickles the steady current of the rhythm section into a sound that sparkles. The song picks up three quarters of the way through with the rousing refrain " Feels good to be alive, feels good to be inspired, feels good to feed the fire" with the rhythm section cleverly articulating the excited of thump of an inspired heart. This is a great example clever and engaging songwriting.
The E.P features two more tracks and is a perfect example of quality over quantity. Midnight Waltz lulls with a languid peace fuelled by a plodding piano on a bed of tinkling rhythm. The E.P is available digitally through iTunes and all good digital stores including http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/thedrifting1.
The Drifting launches their debut EP at Notes in Newtown on Wednesday October 10th 2012.
Supported by Dan Hopkins & The Generous Few and Natasha. Doors open 7pm.
