Paul Gray, Slipknot bass player and co-founder was found dead of a drug overdose on 24th May 2010. Gray is one of a list of 8 patients of Dr Daniel Baldi who overdosed and died after being overprescribed painkilling narcotics by the Des Moines based doctor.
Charges of involuntary manslaughter were filed by the Polk County Attorneys Office. According to papers submitted to the court on Wednesday the charging documents said Baldi "did unintentionally cause the death of Paul Gray by the commission of an act likely to cause death or serious injury, to-wit, continually wrote
high-dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict from 12/27/2005 until his death."
Baldi and his lawyer Guy Cook will fight the charges, the desmoinesregister.com reports that Cook has stated; "It is unprecedented to turn unfortunate deaths or medical results into a crime against a doctor,...Unexpected deaths can occur in severe, chronic pain patients, unrelated to medical treatment," .."This is especially true with patients who are drug addicts or drug abusers."
Baldi has been released from custody after posting $16,0000 in bail.
