For their new DVD, fifty fans with fifty cameras filmed a Madison Square Garden Beastie Boys show.
Titled 'Awesome: I F***in' Shot That', the DVD has been over a year and a half in the making. On October 9, when the Beasties played a huge sell-out show at Madison Square Garden in their hometown of New York, they handed out fifty digital cameras to fans and instructed them to shoot the show. Over the last 18 months, MCA (in the guise of "director" Nathaniel Hornblower), has been editing all the footage down into an 88 minute concert film.Of course, with a hundred hours of footage (or more), the DVD has plucked out the good bits for two hours of extras. Pitchfork reports that there will be full-length alternate angles on the show, commentary by the band, a cappella tracks and a short film starring actor/comedian David Cross (who seems to be the rock'n'roll comic, having also appeared in a TV On The Radio promo video and a clip for The Strokes).
The 'Awesome: I F***in' Shot That' DVD is available in Australian stores from July 20, and will no doubt be f***in' awesome.
