A New Yorker journalist has resigned from his position at The New Yorker after he revealed that quotes purported to be those of Bob Dylan in a non fiction book he had written were fakes.
The title in question is " "Imagine: How Creativity Works" and contains a section dedicated to Dylan where the fake quotes can be found. Author Jonah Lehrer told one white lie in response to a question regarding the authenticity of the quotes from Michael Moynihan a journalist for online publication Tablet that eventually snowballed into a gigantic nightmare. Lehrer admitted to lying to Moynihan in saying that the quotes were authentic and taken from archival interview footage provided by Dylan's representatives.
Lehrer explains his slip-up "This was a lie spoken in a moment of panic. When Mr. Moynihan followed up, I continued to lie, and say things I should not have said," he said. "The lies are over now. I understand the gravity of my position. I want to apologize to everyone I have let down, especially my editors and readers."
