Shy Around Strangers are a New York based trio comprised of Emily Powers, Saric, and Michael Dawson. They are dedicated to making music for the sake of music without the interference of superficial trends in the recording industry.
It's all very well to have the intention to create music that speaks for itself without having to bow to cheesy, industry standards of the fashionable and kewl presentation of band personnel, you got's to have the chops. I am ever so glad to announce that Shy Around Strangers have the chops to do so, and to do it well.
With a firm stance against the influence of popular wants and needs, the trio began recording their first EP as a collaborative protest against the importance placed on physical aesthetics. Their first single to be released from their new E.P due out on August 28th is " It's Alright". The track is wholly digestable without inducing boredom after a couple of listens. Emily Powers vocals have a lazy strength that engage you in the lyrical content with a hypnotic sensuality that wraps you around her little finger. I would call this everymans music, I wouldn't label it with a genre or compare it to anything else, its just great listening that combines an underlying textural dynamic with great song construction and fabulous vocals.
If anyone can be a runaway success without ever revealing their physical appearance " Shy Around Strangers" will. With so much information being flung around and ingested it's refreshing to let the music take over your imagination without any pre-conceived notions of the physical aesthetic of the performers. Be a fan of music for the music's sake.
