It has been sixteen long years since Weezer's one and only tour of Australia. After incessant rumours of potential tours, the resultant fervour that has taken over the nation's music fans remains unrivalled.
Greater still, their tour brings with it a follow thru from their recently announced US concept shows; performing a collection of greatest hits and rarities in addition to The Blue Album, from start to finish. This visit will be both a celebration for older fans, reveling in nostalgia from Weezer's storied Pinkerton tour of 1996, and an introduction to a younger generation working their way back from more recent albums. Such is the anticipation of this announcement that these shows are more than just a tour; they represent a culmination of years of collective longing. Weezer will play four Australian shows in January, starting at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday 13th January, Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Wednesday 16th January, Sydney Entertainment Centre on Saturday 19th January, and Perth Arena on Wednesday 23rd January.
Emerging in 1994 as four awkwardly geeky young men from California, Weezer have surpassed anyone's expectations and have gone from being the unlikely cult heroes of 90s alt-rock to consummate arena rock luminaries. Throughout this ever-evolving career, the band has cultivated an interactive relationship with their fans old and new.
