The members of Status Quo must be hard up for cash at the moment. They have recorded a version of their 1975 chart topper "Down Down" mixing in words from the Coles advertsing jingle.
Supposedly, "tongue in cheek" the video features the band playing "red prices are down hand guitars" and for the sake of saving face seem to be having a jolly good time in their "tongue in cheek" performance. Really?
Shorter versions of the commercial will be used as TVCs for Coles, and the band will feature in radio and print advertisements. Despite looking like a bunch of losers in search of a way to cash in on the old days this isn't the first time Status Quo have rejected credibility for success (be that financial or otherwise). After their second album 1969's "Spare Parts" failed commercially, the band changed their musical direction in abandoning their previous pop psychedelic musical stylings in favour of a boogie/rock sound.
