On Tuesday, May 15, amid Melbourne's biting autumnal squall, a partnership was forged. Saskwatch and Northside Records will dance together and create funky soul for your aural pleasure.
In a ceremony held at Northside Records' namesake retail store, the band and Northside head honcho Chris Gill inked the deal amidst an atmosphere of mutual love and respect with a shared commitment to "Keep things real".
Says Saskwatch's Liam McGorry of the signing,"We're incredibly excited to be signing with Chris and Northside Records. Not only are they our favourite record store, but have been a supporter of local music in Melbourne for over 10 years. It's also a privilege to be the first release on their label."
Gill added, "Saskwatch and Northside Records are the perfect fit. They are both funky and ace. Together we hope to launch a great sound and a new label that will serve up more Funk than John Mcenroes' headband."
It's a Melbourne truth that Northside Records is the city's eminent source for all great things soul and soul-related. Therefore it comes as no surprise to those in the know that Northside and the city's hottest
soul group (or family as there are nine of them) Saskwatch would join forces to create and spread new funk-flavoured magic to the good people.
Saskwatch will be performing every Thursday night this June at Melbourne's Cherry Bar.
