Queen of disco, Donna Summer has passed away in Florida at the age of 63.
CNN has reported that her family issued the following statement after she died on Thursday morning, US time: “Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.” The cause of Donna's death was cancer.
President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle have paid tribute to the life of the singer in a statement released, "Michelle and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Donna Summer. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Donna truly was the 'Queen of Disco.'
Summer was helped to the top of her game by working with Italian producer Giorgio Moroder, who produced Love to Love You Baby, the first long play hit ever, it ran for 17 minutes and tagged her as a star of the incoming disco era that dominated popular music throughout the 1970s.
Summer is survived by her husband, singer and producer Bruce Sudano, their daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda, and Summer's daughter from a previous marriage, Mimi
