Jazz legend George Benson will receive the first Satchmo Award, a new honor created by the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation for artists who are both generous with their talent and their time.
The award is given by the Society of Singers for the first time. SOS have been presenting the Ella Award (named after Ella Fitzgerald) for the last 15 years.Benson's career spans 40 years and has crossed over from jazz to R&B to Adult Contemporary and Pop.
His catalogue of hits includes 'Give Me The Night', 'On Broadway', 'Turn Your Love Around' and 'Breezin'.
Benson will receive his award at a VIP reception during his concert at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, New Jersey on April 27th.
