After thirty years of creating some of the best ska and reggae-pop the world has heard, Dave Wakeling and THE ENGLISH BEAT are coming to Australia for the first time in August 2012.
Often confused with The Beat (Paul Collins band) the group settled on the name The English Beat. Alongside contemporaries such as The Specials (who played in Melbourne last week) and Madness they were at the forefront of the British Ska movement. The English Beat's sound is a forceful blend of ska, punk, rock and reggae. If you love dancin' you won't wanna stop. Frontman Dave Wakeling explains the idea behind the sound "I liked the exhilaration of punk and the hypnotic quality of reggae, and I was sure you could combine them into something ... hypnotic, but rhythmic and danceable too"
