Bristol's trip hop legends Portishead play first new material in ten years.
Pitchfork Media reports that Geoff Barrow, Adrian Uttley and Beth Gibbons performed at a club in their home town after Barrow spun discs as Grumpy Man. It was the first time the members of Portishead have performed together since a 2005 Tsunami benefit.Apparently they even surprised the bartenders, who weren't expecting a full Portishead performance, let alone to hear a rendition of the first new material from the caf??/hairdresser soundtrackers in a decade.
Barrow posted a missive on the group's myspace, saying: "Thanks for everyone who came down to see me DJ last night, and the response to the live stuff, even though it was only 2 songs. Beth and Ade enjoyed playin' as well. Sorry we didn't tell everyone about the gig but it's good to do things like that every now and again, and it's a tiny place." He also noted, "the new song hasn't even got a name yet."
He mentioned in January that he is working to deadlines on a new album, which if released this year will be their first new work under the Portishead guise since 1997's self-titled album.
