Eric Lowen, one half of the folk duo Lowen and Navarro passed away after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease on March 23rd.
The Lowen and Navarro website posted the following ;
"Eric Lowen peacefully ended his nine-year standoff with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease), surrounded by
family and awash in love, gratitude and beautiful music. We all appreciate the support and well wishes that have come his way these many years, and will always hold dear the shining example he was, and still is, to us all."
Lowen and Navarro first gained recognition for penning the Pat Benetar hit "We Belong" and also
wrote songs for the films Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol "It's Time to Move"and Casual Sex? "[She's A] Wild Card". They collaborated with the Bangles on (The Bangles) third album, Everything, co-writing "Something to Believe In" with David White and Michael Steele, and "I'll Set You Free" with White and Susanna Hoffs. Another song by Hoffs, Lowen & Navarro, "Everything I Wanted," eventually turned up on the Bangles' platinum-selling Greatest Hits LP.
Lowen & Navarro gave their final live performance on June 6, 2009. 2010 saw the release of the album " Keep the Light Alive: Celebrating the Music of Lowen & Navarro", sales from the album benefited ALS
organizations and featured the duo's songs as performed by Jackson Browne, John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting, Keb' Mo', the Bangles, and others.
