Founding member, keyboardist and genius song writer for Blondie, Jimmy Destri has formed a new band. No reunions, just a brand spanking new band.
Destri has been out of the scene for a while. After penning Blondies last #1 "Maria" in 1998, Destri left the band in 2004 due to his heart not being in it anymore. Destri explains what happened next " So I did what any self-respecting punk rocker would do. I became a rabid cocaine addict and licked my wounds.”
After a lengthy period of temperance and a stint counselling drug users, the need to make music washed over him again. “When Evan Taylor (one of Destri’s new band mates) expressed interest in getting together a band that performed my material, I was very hesitant. They were more than enthusiastic. After some wearing down, we started to rehearse and just all clicked. “
Destri hasn't given much away as to what the new band " Jimmy Destri and The Sound Grenade" will sound like. According to Destri " Something loud." And according to a fan " “There is something hair raising about hearing some of those solos ingrained in your brain, live. Even his new music is signature Destri.”
